to this effect I may mention, that someone of our enemy in the Colony who wishes to destroy our business makes the false report to the authority and thus puts us into serious trouble the authority knowing that I am the man who supports you for the firm being prevented from bankruptcy and therefore fighting me leaving off the Colony. To all I can say that their acting like this is exactly by means of killing the firme business. Fy all this reasons you will understand that I have been compelled to leave the Colony in order to protect myself and the firm as I have reason to explain that should I have been detained by the authority the firm will go into bankruptcy at once and the syndicate withdraw shares ect.
My scheme of returning to Canton is to suggest of conducting the business here and arrange for Mr Blair to manage the Hong Kong office. But on the contrary to my arrangement Mr Blair goes on his own opinion and apparently seems to force the firm into bankruptcy. Permit me to tell you from the beginning and I trust that you will see what he is acting for you. After my leaving the Colony he seems to
be a mad fellow, either intending to winding up the business or to revoke all my concern from the firm.
Fr Goldring came up to see me personally and discussed matter with me for returning to the Colony, but as I have no intention to returning to the Colony as already explained, I ask him to consult with him to come up to re-arrange matters. He did come on the 6th ult., but 80 disappointed, that his decision is quite on contrary to my scheme. What's the dispute between myself and him is :-
(1). He intends to wind up the business at once instead of awaiting from further instructions.

(2) He holds all the moneys collected from dealers D/O and also moneye from hotels for wines supplied and ceased all paying for Chinese staff salary and forwarding bills and drafts ect.
